When we knew we were getting the new floors I knew I needed to do something about our bedroom furniture. We have had the set since 1998. I refused to get new stuff so I decided to refinish the entire set. Good thing I ended up being good at this. For shots of the actual painting click this link.

lifting my lid
you MUST read this
Let’s start with the toe shall we. The toe that had to be cut opened and drained. The toe that made a man limp and hurt the entire day a houseful of furniture was moved back into a house. Let’s then mention that the anti-biotic this man took for this toe caused an allergic reaction sometime around 8 pm the same day this man worked all day on this furniture move in project. THEN what if I added something that would blow your mind? Well prepare yourself. Picture it if you will. 3 girls and a limping man move furniture into a house.
Let’s go over the disaster timeline shall we.
• Let’s call it 6 PM. A mother goes out to get her weary family any last minute dinner she can find on Sunday Mother’s Day evening in Utah. Result KFC, yuck&yum. Before she leaves she, um melts down on her entire family for not observing mother’s day. Lovely.
• Let’s call it 6:30 pm. A silent, somber family eats a chicken dinner.
• Let’s call it 7:30. A man with a sore toe gets itchy, hot, cold and sick. Could it be mother’s day KFC dinner firing back?
• Let’s call it 8:00. A man determines he is having an allergic reaction to his antibiotic as his symptoms get serious and include reacting pulse and seats. Good times.
• Let’s call it 9:30. A man returns from insta-care and goes to bed.

painted accents
I was tired of some of my accent pieces. I still loved something about each piece BUT wanted to refresh them.
spray painted and then hand painted for a unique finish and texture |
painted turquoise and then distressed and the side plaques are lightly brushed over with yellow ASCP in Arles |
turquoise with sea blue and antiques (was a trio of mirrors that were gold, I removed the mirrors) |
hand painted yellow ASCP in Arles and aged with some stain rubbed on and off (was a putty stone colored resin wall plaque) |
turquoise and distressed (were black and brown) |

restoring a 100 year old buffet
For the life of me I cant find the before picture. SORRY. when it was delivered I had not seen it in person. It was much larger and much more beat up than I anticipated.
An antique Jacobean buffet is 6' long and is circa 1912.
She had melted crayon on her, stickers inside and a skyline high school late library's notice from 1952 in the main drawer. she was wobbly and overall drab. I scraped out the goo, tightened her up and then cleaned it with white vinegar and hot water. I then lightly sanded down some scraped up areas, broken or cracked places and rough places. I cleaned it again after.
Then I applied restore-a-finish. It goes on like an oily rub on stain. it soaks in and does not get gooey or sticky. I did two coats and rubbed it in like I was polishing it. over night I left it with a plastic tarp over it.
Better than new beautiful! She has a broken knob as her only flaw now.

cedar chest
Many people have one laying around. Passed down from a grandmother or aunt. The antique cedar chest. Nothing screams dated like one of these babies. I refinished one of my two chests when I did my master furniture. I wanted the wood to peek through and wanted to make the chest amazingly beautiful.
I sanded it down, wiped it well and then painted it with Valspar enamel and a cheap brush. I worked fast with fast light strokes. I went right over the hardware and layered on the coats swiftly and lightly. It really is very pretty and 100% better than it was before. I put layer of satin poly on the tap where the dog likes to jump up to get on and off of the bed. I did nothing to the inside.
I have another one that is in terrible shape. Not sure what I will do with that one.

Then lets get a big
5" MDF primed board and lay it
horizontally to create a casual, finished look.
I had some challenges
in the room that i identified and planned the project around from the
beginning.

ASCP dinette froom 1922
For forever I have wanted to refinish a dinette set. The set I found was from 1922. It had only 4 chairs with cane backs. It had two leaves.

ASCP Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
I have several pieces that I am working on currently for my home. Some are antiques I picked up and some are my own pieces that I want to change the look or color of. ALL are getting ASCP.
I also plan to do a vidoe tutorial on; how to layer with ASCP, apply thicker product, thin out the product, clear wax, dark wax and distress.
I currently have several colors I am painting with.
