upholstering with pillow fabric

My telephone table and my French stools were upholstered with fabric from pillows or shams. I loved the pattern on both. For the stools I used one clearance sham to upholster both. The texture and pattern really make an impact and I was easy.

I cut either side of the zipper cut to the corner and then ripped the pillow from the loose seams. I then had 2 perfect squares. I used no sew tape to seal the ends so the stitching would not fray away. With the other I upholstered the seat with a Jennifer Lopez pillow fabric from Kohl’s. I felt the fabric captured the era I was going for. I removed the inside pillow and the zipper claps. I slipped the original seat in the fabric pouch. I then tightened up the fabric to the seat with spay adhesive and staples. I always use spray adhesive to upholster. I love it! I decided from the start only to consider pillows as my fabric on these projects. So I was on the hunt for the right pillows rather than for just fabric.

I considered some velvet pillows from Ikea, when I saw them in person I changed my mind, the colors were wrong for my space. I considered several options that didn’t work out based on the size or the color. It was very fun searching though.
