upholstering with pillow fabric
My telephone table and my French stools were upholstered with fabric from pillows or shams. I loved the pattern on both. For the stools I used one clearance sham to upholster both. The texture and pattern really make an impact and I was easy.
my lamps need a makeover
I spend a lot of time thinking about how I don't like my lamps and how I want to change them. Yes, that may be an indication of mild insanity.
I have a few new lamps that I love but a few that I am no longer feeling the love for. I see their potential though.
I want to apologize in advance for the dark gloomy pics....its dark and gloomy today.

Entry table
This little table was from Target like 8 years ago. When they used to have their market fair items. I sanded the top and distressed it for character with a hammer, chisel, sand paper and such.
lets talk rug pads shall we
Have two amazing tips that will make laying your area rug down easy & better.
First thing is that rug pad are expensive!! Its a rip off.
Second thing is that they don't actually reach edge to edge of your rug.
My solutions are...
get the Ikea rug pad and cover the very edge of the back of your rug with duct tape.

You have seen the lovely after shots. Now see the way it went down and some before the woods were in pictures.
Also see what the banister looked like before I refinished it to match the floors.

{BEFORE & AFTER] refininishing banister
When we got wood floors I had to refinish the banister. I sanded it down and scrapped off all the old varnish. I left it assembled to do the job. I cleaned and tried it well before I started painting. I free handed the entire job and touched up as I felt it needed. I use short craft brushes so that the paint would be able to be applied with texture.

1914 Vanity
What I thought was a desk was actually a vanity. The center lifts up and inside there is a vanity compartment and a mirror. I had to repair the brackets sp0 it would stay open. It was very fragile. Its old the center is heavy and the legs are thin. It was falling apart. I have had to clamp, glue, and rig this bad boy. I was not going to give up. I got 4 more legs so that each side would be supported. I left the original hardware and painted over it. The orignal piece can be seen here. Its the photo titled desk 1914.

make your own chalk paint
Though I am in love with ASCP its often hard to find in addition to the cost. On a blog I follow, PICKIN and PAINTIN, I saw an excellent post on making your own chalk paint. She has links to recipe's and a tutorial. Check it out.

apothacary jar decorating
I love apothecary jars..why? They add scale while not taking up space. Its a glass outline that can be fully or partially filled allowing for neutral or color pops. Great ways to incorporate Holiday decorating into everyday decorating. There are a variety or styles and prices for these glass babies. I WONT pay too much for anything...and with these there is no need. I love Hobby Lobby on glass half off days, and I love vintage ones as well.

hand made crutch pads
Crutches hurt. Padding helps. I had the idea to make cute pads that could be removed and blogged about. I don't sew. I am the architect not the executor. I sketched a double thick poly foam pad with fabric ties. The zig zag thread was their idea. The fabric was a $2.13 walmart remnant. The pad $2.99. I have left over of both.

http://www.icanvasart.com/
I have a husband who is hard to shop for. Anything he needs he gets himself and he HATES being given as a gift anything he needs (please don't ask about the year the kids, his dad and I all got him kitchen items for Christmas...it was ugly. He is the cook of the house so it seemed practical at the time). He rarely mentions anything he wants, if he does its of a price range I'm not going to oblige him. SO I have to get creative and plan ahead.
For Christmas I nailed it!! I bragged for months ahead of time that I nailed it. Everyone knew. It was highly anticipated and that morning it was revealed that I did in fact freaking nail it (for non-Utahans freaking is a word that emphasises the word it precedes).

Telephone Table- chatting bench – complete
I knew the final destination for this table-bench was my bedroom. So I wanted it finished the same as my bedroom furnature. I also wanted it to be special and I wanted it to transition to another room latter should I decide to move it. There was little about this piece that was special or pretty before. I had been looking for one for a while and am SO happy to have found one.

all the places to dine
I seem to have a thing for dining room tables and furniture that goes a long with it. I have 4 tables on my main level.
{BEFORE & AFTER] Repurposing a room
When we first moved to this house our formal dining room was empty. Nothing in it at all. After a while we made it the work out room. A treadmill and weight rack was in there. I put up a decorative screen to sort of hide it, I hated it!

Happy Birthday Piper
She is going to kill me for using this picture.
However, 30 years of memories can be summed up with this picture for me. I kind of loved it instantly.
Happy Birthday Chick.

personal style
I am on a BIG everything vintage kick lately. Anything that is old and beautiful that either serves a practical purpose for today OR just makes me swoon. I really like minimal and organized interior styling. I like to decorate with things I LOVE completely and set them out in a thought out and uncluttered way.
